Planning out Juried Photo Submission

I have been listening to Bruce Baker's CD entitled "Your Slides and the Jury". I want to apply to more competitive shows in the future, so I figured I needed to up my game with my Jury slides.

After listening to the CD last night, I had the idea of creating a test layout for my submissions.

I know that a couple of shows I plan to apply to this year will require 3 product photos and 1 booth photo. I do not know how those photos are shown to the jury, but I have taken the time to email the promoter and ask.  In the meantime, I have put together these test layouts based on a 2x2 grid.

Before I show you what I am looking at, here is a mockup of the photos I have submitted in the past. The backgrounds are most distracting than I thought at the time I used them.

Which set of photos is the most appealing? And why do you prefer that set?

Holiday Booth: The Final Preview Before Launch

All of my holiday shows this year are indoors. And they are all Holiday themed. In the past I have used a little tinsel or my normal setup, but I have always felt my booth was a little, well a little under-dressed for the show.

So this year I wanted to try something different. I wanted to create a holiday theme for my booth. I thought long and hard about my products and what type of theme may look good with my lines.

I finally decided to go with a simple yet elegant theme (though I am not sure watching too much Frozen did not influence my decisions).

The theme of my holiday booth? Warmth and luxury on a cold snowy night!

So I bet you all would like to see my preview? Just remember these pictures are of the dry run setups and works in progress. I will post full booth shots next week.

This is my 6 foot table dry run. I did this when I was testing which type of "snow" I wanted to use.

I also have my glowin snowballs on this table surrounded by a wreath of ice crystals.

This snowball is make of a plastic ornament and some fake snow. Plus my secret ingredient (I am working on a tutorial to make these).

This is my front table. It is 4 foot long and will hold my moderate priced inventory.

As you can see I have added plenty of extra lighting to these tables.

I also have my shutters. They normally look like this:

But my sweet husband has been working on a project for me to increase lighting on these.

And finally I have decided to offer my booth guests a little treat while they are inside my booth ( I am not putting these out front to cut down on those that take treats and leave. To get one, you need to come into the booth)

Don't you love the marketing? Each bag contains a Hershey Hug and a Hershey Kiss. They are portable, and they contain my website address.

So here is the preview, but even I am excited to see how my final product will look! :)

New piece!!!

With the holidays right around the corner, I have decided to make some eye-popping pieces of jewelry. I have been working with my torch quite a bit lately.

Today I wanted to share one of the pieces I am the most proud of!

This piece is not quite finished yet, as I am still waiting on the chain and findings to finish it. But I wanted to let you see the work, even if it is in progress.
Featuring a carved blue labradorite teardrop set in Sterling silver, this is a work of art.

After I finished making the stone setting, I then created these beautiful braided silver wings that extend off of the stone. They are finished in the back with small circles, to which the chain will be attached when it is finished.

Booth Look Update for my last Show

I have been working on updating my holiday booth. One thing I have really wanted to add was more lighting. So I bought two pieces of gridwall (sold at Walmart as add-ons for a garage shelving unit for $16) to add to my tables.

I have also added rolls of "snow blankets" in order to prepare for my holiday look.

Here are some photos of my latest booth look.

Another addition to my indoor booth; the vertical banner stand. Many of my indoor shows do not allow hanging anything on the wall, so this is a nice alternative to keep my banner visible to people walking by.
The lights really drew people in. More than even I thought they would!
In this case, the shutters did not draw as much attention as I had hoped. People spent more time at my tables. In many cases I had to let them know I had earrings on the shutter displays behind them. I have a suspicion this was due to the tables being lit but the shutters were not.

Anywho, just a quick update on the process! Enjoy and have a wonderful day!
