My Childhood Song

When I was a child and having a hard time, there was one song that always brightened my outlook. It reminded me that it is ok to dream, because dreams can come true. Anytime I felt blue, that was the song that came to my lips. So today I would like to share that memory with you all. I bet most of you already know this song :)

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?
(Lyrics found at StLyrics.com)

Somewhere over the rainbow was my childhood song. What was your childhood song?

Paua Shell and Abalone

Etsy has recently changed their policy of allowing pre-ban endangered species items. This is good news from a conservation stand point. Out of curiosity I looked at the list of endangered and threatened animals and realized that two species of abalone are listed.

When most of us think Abalone, this is what we are imagining. A beautiful iridescent shell that is reminiscent of tropical waters. With such beauty, it is easy to imagine how these wonders ended up on the list. But we would be wrong.
Stock photo from Wikipedia of Haliotis iris.
This is not the albalone that is endangered. These are:
Black Abalone
White Abalone
If you look up Paua Shell, you will quickly find out that it too is part of the albalone group, but unlike the two endanged albalone, Paua's are found in New Zealand. In fact not only are they not endangered, but New Zealand even has a growing aquaculture industry for paua. They harvest the snails for both their meat and their beautiful shells, like these:

Etsy's New Listing Page: Hiccups and Work Arounds

Overall I like the new listing page. It is clean, with most of the infomation centered on the product being looked at.

There are a few issues however.

First: Shipping.
In order to see shipping costs, or shipping time, you have to click the shipping tab. Not very user friendly I think.  Short of putting shipping prices and times directly into each listing, I do not currently have a work around here.

Second: Navigation
In the orginal listing format, you could at least return to a section by following the gray nav link at the top of the page. Now that link is hidden by a banner. The banner is nice in that it features products by the seller, BUT it makes it impossible to simply navigate around the store.

In the case of navigation, sellers can side step this issue by ensuring each listing has a back link to it's shop section as well as a back link to their store.

Since the new listing pages have been in testing, I have seen a larger than normal spike in my shop stats from Etsy; specifically "your listings". While my shop section stats have gone into the toilet.

What do you like or hate about the new listing page on Etsy?

Listing work.

I have been working on updating some of the SEO on my Etsy store. (warning this could get a little link heavy)

In the past month, I have updated the sections of my store. I have gone from Hoop Earrings to Silver Hoop Earrings, Copper Hoops, Gold Filled Hoops, Niobium Hoop Earrings, and Hoop Earring Sets.

Obviously the Silver Hoop Earrings feature my Sterling Silver Hoops.  I have four different sizes of backward hoops I sell under the Silver Hoop Earrings section, as well as 3 Inch Hoops and 4 Inch Hoops.  My four sterling silver backward hoop sizes are: Tiny Sterling Silver Hoops (0.5 inch diameter), Small Sterling Silver Hoop Earrings (1.0 inch diameter), Medium Silver Hoop Earrings (1.5 inch diameter) and Large Sterling Silver Hoop Earrings (2.0 inch diameter).

I have also worked on my listings for my Tiny Gold Hoop Earrings made from 14 karat gold filled wire, as well as my tiny copper hoops and my small hammered copper hoop earrings.

I am hoping all this work will increase my position in certain keyword searches from Google.

Thanks for letting me ramble.
